PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University women's soccer team scored five goals to end the weekend at home against the Rogers State University Hillcats Sunday (Oct. 4) at the Gorilla Soccer Pitch.
The 5-0 win for the Gorillas moved them to 10-0-2 on the season overall and 4-0-2 in MIAA play, marking the second year in a row to have a 10-win season. Rogers State, drops to 4-4-2 overall and 2-3-0 in MIAA action.
For the match, 10 Gorillas contributed to the five goals with five unique goalscorers. As a team, PSU held a 32-2 advantage on shots, 17-2 for shots on goal and 8-0 for corner kicks.
Sammie Edwards got the scoring started at 17:25 from an inside the six yard box strike that ricocheted off Calais Butts in goal before hitting the near post and crossbar until it crossed the goal line.
Carrie Cunningham made it 2-0 at 41:14 from an outside the 18-yard box left footed far post shot on the ground that bear Butts.
Avianna Gonzalez made it 3-0 at 46:09 after a
Shayla Hunt shot hit the far post and returned to
Ella Cazzavillan who squared it to Gonzalez for her inside the box far post upper-90 goal.
Dylann Ehegartner at 75:41 made it 4-0 with a far post upper-90 lob shot goal over Eliza Naegle, and
Leah Pugliese finished off the scoring with a 30-yard left footed strike far post to beat Pyper Johnson.Â
For the season now Cunningham and Gonzalez have three goals scored, Edwards and Pugliese have notched two goals and for Ehegartner that was her first of the season. Being credited with assists were

Jocelyn Kramar (77:42) and
Sabrina Schilt (12:18) held the Hillcats scoreless with Kramar notching two five half saves. S. Hunt, Cazzavillan, Gonzalez and Cunningham all came away with three shots, two of which were on goal with 16 Gorillas overall getting a shot off, as 11 individuals recorded at least one shot on goal.
For RSU, Butts (52:52, 3 GA), Naegle (29:01, 1 GA) and Johnson (8:07, 1 GA) split time in goal for the Hillcats with Zoe Wehrman and Bella Holland the only members of the team to finish with shots. Holland had a breakaway opportunity for RSU but saw her sliding effort inside the 18-yard box get saved by Kramar at 19:21 before Wehrman quickly fired off a second chance effort that was calmly collected by Kramar.
Up next for Pittsburg State will be the University of Nebraska - Kearney Lopers Friday (Oct. 9). Kickoff from Ron & Carol Cope Stadium is set for 7:00 p.m. (CT).
