Gorillas Begin Southern Colorado Crossover With Pair Of Wins

PUEBLO, Colo - The Pittsburg State University softball team picked up wins over the University of Colorado - Colorado Springs (16-6) and Adams State University (4-0) on Friday (Feb. 6) to begin the Southern Colorado Crossover.

Pittsburg State (6-0) began the day with a five inning run rule victory over UCCS (5-2) at the Mountain Lion Field in Colorado Springs. The 16 runs scored by Pitt State is tied for the eighth most in a game in program history. Kadyn Trochim, Haili Igou and Kyleigh Lamont hit consecutive home runs in a 10 run first inning, and as a trio accounted for 11 of the 16 runs scored by the Gorillas. Lamont led all players going 4-of-5 with four runs driven in. Trochim led the team with three runs scored as Igou and Rachael Schlotter each finished with three RBI. In the circle, Emma Crabb (2-0) struck out two in 4.2 innings of relief and was credited with the win.

To end the day, the Gorillas traveled south to Pueblo and claimed a 4-0 victory over ASU at the Rawlings Softball Complex on the campus of Colorado State University - Pueblo. Heather Arnett scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning off an Igou sacrifice fly, Sailor Hall for the first time as a Gorilla hit a home run in the fifth to extend the lead to 3-0. Lamont rounded out her productive day with an RBI single up the middle to score Igou. Lexi Franklin (2-0) struck out a career-high 13 batters in a complete game shutout. The 13 strikeouts are tied for the seventh most in program history.

Saturday (Feb. 7), the Gorillas will begin the day against Adams State at 11:00 a.m. (CST) before playing hosts Colorado State - Pueblo at 2:00 p.m. at the Rawlings Softball Complex.
