WICHITA, Kan. - Senior guard
Harper Schreiner finished with a season-high 26 points to go with nine rebounds and a trio of steals to lead the Pittsburg State University Gorillas over the Newman University Jets, 81-76 on Saturday (Feb. 7) at Fugate Gymnasium.
Pittsburg State (17-5, 10-3 MIAA) also got key contributions from
Marin Adams with 16 points, Clara Wearingen with 14 points and
Kaycee McCumber with 10 points and three steals. As a team the Gorillas converted on 24 free throws in the game and held a 25-2 advantage over Newman (7-16, 1-13 MIAA) for points off turnovers and 15-4 in fast break points.Â
For the Jets, Alexis Martin tied a school record with 39 points off the bench, going 6-of-10 from distance, 13-of-19 from the field and converting on all seven of her free throw attempts.
Up next for Pittsburg State will be a return to John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court to host the Missouri Western State University Griffons on Wednesday (Feb. 11). Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. (CST).
