Pitt State Squads Picked As MIAA Outdoor Favorites

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Both the Pittsburg State University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams are the unanimous preseason favorite in their respective MIAA Coaches Poll released Thursday (Mar. 19).

The Gorillas men earned nine first-place votes and 81 total points to take the top spot. Northwest Missouri received 72 points and the remaining first-place vote, while Missouri Southern received 63 points to land at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

The Pitt State men captured the 2025 MIAA Outdoor Championship and 10 of the last 13 outdoor titles (2012-15, '18, '21-25). The Gorillas are the four-time defending NCAA Division II National Champions.

The Pitt State women also led the way with 10 first-place votes and 100 points. Northwest Missouri finished second in the poll with 91 points and received the remaining first-place vote. Washburn rounded out the top three with 82 points.

The Pitt State women claimed the MIAA Outdoor Championship for the eighth time in the last 10 seasons in 2025 (2015-19, '22, '24-25). The Gorillas finished third at the NCAA Division II Outdoor meet in 2025 after claiming the 2024 National Championship.
