Arnett Sets Division II Hitting Steak Record as No. 3 Gorillas Sweep Bearcats

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Senior infielder Heather Arnett set a new NCAA Division II record for consecutive games with a hit on Friday (Apr. 10) as the Pittsburg State University softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep over the Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats at the Bearcat Softball Field.

Needing a hit in her last at bat of the first game to keep the hitting streak alive and set the division record, Arnett singled to left field in the seventh inning to break the record that was previously held by Katelyn Lovato. Lovato for Adams State University recorded a hit in 41 consecutive games from Mar. 6, 2010 - Feb. 12, 2011. Presently, Arnett is on a 43 game streak that dates back to May 8, 2025.

Pittsburg State (39-2, 11-1 MIAA) claimed the doubleheader with scorelines of 4-0 and 11-7 against Northwest Missouri (27-12, 7-7 MIAA).

In game one, Emma Crabb struck out eight Bearcats in the complete game shutout for her 13th win of the season. Alleyna Rushing, Kadyn Trochim, Lexi Davis and Hailii Igou each drove in a run with Trohim the team leader with two hits in the game. Rushing, Davis, Trista Peterson and Rachael Schlotter each finished with one run scored.

To end the twin bill, Pitt State scored twice in the first inning before plating nine total runs in the fifth and sixth innings to claim the comeback victory.

Kyleigh Lamont finished with a game-high five RBI, with three runs coming off a home run in the fifth inning to take a 7-4 lead. Heather Arnett led the 14-hit attack for the Gorillas by going 3-of-5 and finishing as one of four Gorillas to score twice in the game. Arnett was joined by Rushing, Davis, Sailor Hall, Igou and Lamont with multiple hit performances. In the circle, Hall (7-0) picked up the win with 3.0 innings of relief, striking out four. Lexi Franklin in the no decision struck out two Bearcats in 4.0 innings of work.

Up next for Pittsburg State will be the Missouri Western State University Griffons on Saturday (Apr. 11). First pitch of a scheduled doubleheader against MWSU from the Griffon Softball Field is set for Noon.
