NEW ORLEANS — Pittsburg State University head track & field coach
Kyle Rutledge swept Central Region Coach of the Year honors for men's and women's indoor track & field as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday (Mar. 23).
Additionally, redshirt junior
Dylan Sprecker was named the Central Region Track Athlete of the Year for men's indoor track & field.
Rutledge, in his fifth year as head coach at Pittsburg State, led the Gorillas to a sweep of the men's and women's team titles at the 2026 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, repeating a feat he accomplished during the 2025 indoor season as well.
Rutledge led the Pitt State men to the team title with event wins in the 60 meters, mile and distance medley relay. The Gorillas also won the team title at the MIAA Indoor Championships, winning 10 events while scoring a meet-record 225 points.
The Pitt State women claimed a pair of even victories – in the pole vault and the high jump – while earning 21 All-America honors. The Gorillas also won the team title at the MIAA Indoor Championships, winning eight events with 22 All-MIAA performances.
Sprecker won the mile and anchored the winning distance medley relay at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships. Earlier in the season, Sprecker scored 22.5 points at the MIAA Indoor Championships behind individual titles in the mile and 3000 meters, as well as a tote on the victorious DMR.
