TAHLEQUAH, Okla. --
Bradyn McClure limited Northeastern State University to three hits over seven innings of work on the mound and the Pittsburg State University baseball team blanked the RiverHawks, 9-0, in the MIAA series opener Thursday (Apr. 9) at Rousey Field.
McClure (4-0) and reliever
Ricardo Hernandez combined on a five-hit shutout against NSU (13-25, 8-15 MIAA). McClure issued two walks and registered a season-high 11 strikeouts, while Hernandez allowed two hits and a walk, while fanning three batters over the final six outs.
Pitt State (29-8, 18-8 MIAA) struck for five runs in the second inning and tacked on three runs in the third and a final run in the sixth frame.
Grant Nottlemann went 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of walks and two runs scored.
Cooper Wesslund and
Dagen Brewer collected two hits apiece. Wesslund drove in three runs, while Brewer smacked a double and totaled two RBI on the night.
The Gorillas and RiverHawks will resume the three-game MIAA series with a 3 p.m. (CDT) game Friday (Apr. 10).
