PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University volleyball team began MIAA play with a tight five set defeat against No. 18 Emporia State University on Friday (Sept. 18) inside John Lance Arena.
For ESU (13-1, 1-0 MIAA) the win extendeds their winning streak to 11. The Hornets claimed the match against PSU (11-2, 0-1 MIAA) with set scores of 25-12, 17-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-7.
Crystal Smith finished with a match-high 23.0 points from 19 kills (.438) and a team-high six total blocks.
Vix Vilott,
Maliyah Johnson and
Maddi LaPointe each finished with 10 kills.
Jesa Wallace finished with a team-high 27 assists with
Brynna Zoeller claiming 19 assists.
Kassidy Nixon led the Gorillas with 25 digs, followed by
Mason Palace with 24 and
Mina Kaneko with 23.
Up next for the Gorillas will be the Fort Hays State Unviersity Tigers on Friday (Sept. 25) in Hays, Kan., at Gross Memorial Coliseum.
