JOPLIN, Mo. - The Pittsburg State University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Missouri Southern Stampede Saturday (Sept. 19) morning on the Tom Rutledge Cross Country Course. The Gorilla men finished first as a team on the eight-kilometer course, with the women's team finishing in second on the five-kilometer course.
For the men,
Brody Deniston (24:33.04) led the team and placed sixth with
Nick Kilonzo (24:37.49) rounding out the members of the team to finish in the top 10 with a seventh place finish.
Houston McGown (24:57.14),
Noah Morenz (24:59.48) and
Jake Beauchamp (25:02.85) finished in 12th, 14th and 17th to account for the scoring five for the team to make up the 56 points to capture the team title at the event.
Paige Mullen led the PSU women with a second place finish at 17:16.52,
Lorna Rae Pierce (17:25.64) finished fourth to round out top 10 finishes for the team.
Kaci Singer (18:07.60),
Hannah Gibson (18:16.27) and
Brooke Hedger (18:25.55) finished in 11th, 14th and 19th to round out the top five finishers for the Gorillas to account for 50 points, hosts MSSU finished with a low score of 43.
