PITTSBURG - The Pittsburg State University volleyball team finished the Gorilla Classic with a pair of four-set victories over Arkansas Tech and William Jewell on Friday (Sept. 4) at John Lance Arena.
Pitt State (7-1) claimed the match against ATU (5-3) with set scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15. And ended the weekend with set scores of 25-15, 25-21, 19-25, 25-12 against WJC (1-7).
To begin the day, PSU was led by 15.5 points from
Maddi LaPointe from 13 kills (.500 hitting percentage) and five total blocks.
Crystal Smith with 13.5 points from 11 kills finished with a .563 hitting percentage.
Amariah White finished the match with a team-high eight total blocks to go with five kills for 9.5 points.
Jesa Wallace (27) and
Brynna Zoeller (18) split setting duties while
Mina Kaneko (16) and
Kassidy Nixon (12) were the leading performers for digs.
To end the tournament, Smith led the team with 16.0 points from 13 kills (.706) and six total blocks. Wallace collected a double-double with 26 assists and 12 digs. Kaneko finished with a team-high 21 digs with
Mason Palace missing out on a double-double after a 20-dig, nine-kill performance.
Up next for the Gorillas will be the MIAA/GAC Crossover in Edmond and Shawnee, Okla., beginning on Thursday (Sept. 10).
