Biography

General: Fourth-year player… a talented cornerback who returns following an All-MIAA junior campaign in 2022… expected to be an impact performer for the Gorillas again this fall… has compiled 40 career tackles with one interception and 14 pass breakups…  selected a 2023 PSU team captain… transferred to Pitt State from Southern Illinois University.

In 2019-22: Started eight of 13 games played in 2022… posted 14 tackles (11 solo) with four pass breakups and one fumble recovery on the season…  started two of nine games played in 2021… posted 12 tackles (eight solo), one interception and six pass breakups on the season… opted out of the 2020 Covid-19 shortened season… saw action in all 11 games, including two starts, in 2019… made 14 tackles (11 solo) with 1.5 tackles-for-loss and four pass breakups on the season.

At SIU: Spent one season at Southern Illinois… redshirted in his only season with the Salukis.

In High School: A Missouri Class 6A All-State performer as a senior at Lindbergh High School in 2017… also an All-Conference and All-District performer.

Personal: Born November 28, 1999… son of Rico Payton and SheRhonda Reid… a member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll… has a 3.18 GPA as a recreation services, sport and hospitality management major.
