Doug Bullard (1989-93)

Doug Bullard garnered first-team NCAA Division II All-America honors as a senior in 1993. He was named to the first-team squad by the AFCA, Football Gazette and Daktronics. Bullard, a three-year starter at center for the Gorillas, earned All-MIAA honors in each of his final three seasons. He earned third-team All-MIAA recognition as a sophomore in 1991, helping PSU capture the NCAA-II national title. Bullard garnered second-team All-MIAA honors as a junior in 1992 and first-team All-MIAA accolades in 1993.
Kendall Gammon (1988-91)

Kendall Gammon garnered first-team NCAA Division II All-America honors as an offensive guard from Football Gazette as a senior in 1991, helping the Gorillas to a 13-1-1 record and the NCAA Division II National Championship. He earned first-team All-MIAA honors in each of his final three seasons (1989-91). Following his collegiate career, Gammon was selected to Pitt State’s prestigious 100th Anniversary Football Team in 2003.
Jenni (Miller) Croy (1994-97)

Jenni (Miller) Croy completed a decorated four-year basketball career with 364 3-point field goals – the second-highest total in the history of the NCAA women’s game. She garnered honorable mention NCAA-II All-America honors from DII Bulletin as a senior in 1997, when she averaged 17.8 ppg. She finished her collegiate career as a four-time All-MIAA performer, earning first-team All-MIAA honors as a senior in 1997. Miller also eclipsed the Pitt State scoring record during her senior season, finishing her 111-game career with 1,809 points.
Thomas B. Stringer (1979-82)

Tom Stringer earned first-team NAIA All-America honors as an offensive lineman for the Gorillas as a junior in 1981, helping Pitt State to a 10-2 record and the NAIA Division I National Runner-up finish that season. He twice earned All-CSIC honors. He was a first-team All-CSIC selection in 1981, and Stringer was named to the second-team All-CSIC squad as a senior in 1982.
LeRoy “Uhlie” Uhlenhop (1938-41)

LeRoy “Uhlie” Uhlenhop earned All-CIC honors in each of his final three seasons for the Gorillas. He earned first-team All-CIC honors as a senior in 1941. Uhlenhop was named the captain of the 1941 CIC All-Star squad and the squad’s defensive MVP. He also was voted MVP of the Oklahoma City Christmas Tournament that year. Uhlenhop was a second-team All-CIC selection in 1939 and 1940. He helped lead Pitt State to the program’s first two NAIA National Tournament appearances during the 1940 and 1941 seasons.
Andrew F. Bertuzzi (1941-43)

Andy Bertuzzi was named to Pitt State’s prestigious 11-man 50th Anniversary Football Team following his playing days for the Gorillas. He earned second-team All-CIC honors as a sophomore in 1942, helping Pitt State to the CIC crown. In 1943, he helped the Gorillas to the school’s first undefeated season, posting a 6-0 record with a team primarily comprised of Navy V12 men stationed near the college. Bertuzzi also earned All-CIC honors in the discus and shot put in track & field in 1942 and he lettered on the 1943 basketball team as well.

Track & Field Legacy Athletes
Pittsburg State’s mile relay team -- comprised of Wendell Davis, David German, Laurence Swisher and Richard Terwilliger -- were clocked running the second-fastest time in the world in 1933 with a time of 3 minutes, 15.5 seconds. The quartet recorded the mark with a winning performance at the CIC Meet on May 13 at Emporia. The Gorillas replicated their 3:15.5 time with another winning effort at Marquette on June 2 at Milwaukee, Wis., helping Pitt State claim the team title and the prestigious Knute Rockney Trophy from the meet.
