Daryl Cronk, 1996-99

Daryl Cronk earned second-team NCAA Division II All-America honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association as a sophomore in 1997. Cronk also garnered Central Region Pitcher of the Year honors that season. He compiled a 27-12 record with a 3.51 ERA in 48 career appearances for the Gorillas, setting the Pitt State record for career wins. Cronk earned All-MIAA honors three times (1997-99), helping the Gorillas to three straight appearances in the NCAA Division II National Tournament as well as the program’s first MIAA title as a senior in 1999.
Lon Farrell

Meritorious Achievement Legacy
Lon Farrell was a two-time All-CIC football player for Pittsburg State from 1950-51 before enjoying a successful career as a high school and college football coach and administrator. Farrell compiled a 54-7 record as a high school football coach, including leading St. Mary’s-Colgan High School to five straight league titles (1956-60) and a 26-game winning streak. Farrell was a graduate assistant coach on the University of Arkansas’ 1964 NCAA National Champion squad. He remained on the Razorbacks staff until joining UA’s administrative team in 1973. Farrell served as an Assistant A.D. from 1975 until his untimely death in 1986.
Megan (Corby) Haas, 1992-95

Megan Corby earned NCAA Division II All-America honors four times in the triple jump during her decorated career for the Gorillas. She captured MIAA titles three times and she finished her career as a 17-time All-MIAA performer in the high jump, long jump and triple jump disciplines. Corby set Pitt State's school indoor triple jump record (40-1.25). She also served as a four-year letterwinner in volleyball, setting Pitt State records for service aces (109), digs (875) and blocks (405) upon the completion of her career.
Brian Hutchins, 1990-93

Brian Hutchins earned honorable mention NCAA Division II All-America honors at quarterback as a junior in 1992, after leading Pittsburg State to two straight trips to the Division II National Championship Game. Hutchins compiled a 27-5 record as the Gorillas' starting quarterback, leading Pitt State to the 1991 NCAA Division II National Championship and a national runner-up finish in 1992. A two-time All-MIAA performer, Hutchins rushed for a school QB record 2,007 yards and passed for 3,053 yards and 25 TDs.
Neal Philpot, 2000-04

Neal Philpot finished his decorated career as a two-time NCAA Division II All-America quarterback for Pittsburg State from 2003-04. Philpot earned honorable mention All-America honors in 2003 and he claimed second-team All-America accolades in 2004 when he led the Gorillas to the NCAA Division II National Championship Game. He set MIAA records for career total offense (10,168 yards) and career QB rushing yards (4,337 yards). Philpot posted a 38-8 record as the Gorillas starting quarterback – the second-highest win total in NCAA Division II history.
David Shrader

Track & Field Legacy
David Shrader finished a decorated career as a thrower in the Pittsburg State track & field program as a five-time All-Central Intercollegiate Conference (CIC) performer. Shrader captured league titles all four years in the discus (1936-38, ’40) and he also captured the CIC crown in the shot put as a senior in 1940. Shrader also finished as the CIC runner-up three times in the shot put (1936-38). He helped the Gorillas to three CIC Championships during his career. Shrader set the school record in the discus in 1940 with a throw of 165-9. That mark was the sixth best ever recorded by an American at that time.
Alan G. & Roberta Harlow Whetzel

Meritorious Achievement
Ardent supporters of Pittsburg State University Athletics, Alan & Roberta Whetzel provided the $1.2 million anchor gift on the Garfield Weede Building Renovation Project. Following updates to John Lance Arena, the facility was renamed John Lance Arena/Whetzel Court. Alan was a two-year basketball letterwinner for the Gorillas from 1958-59, and he also served as an assistant basketball coach for John Lance from 1960-61. Roberta served as a cheerleader during her college days at Pittsburg State.
