Austin Bonnel is in his second year as an assistant coach at Pittsburg State University in 2026.
Bonnel returned to campus after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Butler Community College. The Atchison, Kan., native additionally served as BCC's recruiting coordinator in 2024. He helped the Grizzlies to a 39-23 record in 2023 and a 33-27 mark this past spring.
Bonnel played three seasons for the Gorillas (2020-2022) after transferring to Pitt State from Coffeyville Community College, where he was a Gold Glove recipient and a second-team All-Jayhawk Conference performer in 2019. He hit .315 with 30 runs scored, six home runs and 23 RBI as a senior and team captain for the Gorillas in 2022.
Bonnel earned a bachelor's degree in recreation services, sport & hospitality management from Pittsburg State in 2021. He is in the process of completing a master's degree in health, human performance and recreation from Pitt State.
Austin and his wife, Makenzie, reside in Pittsburg.
