George Sanders recently completed his third year as an assistant coach at Pittsburg State University. He served as cornerbacks coach for the Gorillas.
Sanders’ cornerbacks helped the Pitt State defense lead the MIAA in interceptions (14) in 2021 as Dallis Flowers (1st team) and Jordan Hendy (3rd team) each earned All-MIAA honors for their play in the secondary. In 2022, cornerback Rico Payton (2nd team) garnered All-MIAA accolades.
Sanders came to Pitt State after serving in 2019 as a defensive graduate assistant coach at the University of the Incarnate Word. The Houston, Texas, native helped the Cardinals force 33 turnovers on the season, ranking third nationally.

During the 2018 season, Sanders served as a defensive graduate assistant at MIAA rival Northeastern State University, coaching cornerbacks and nickels for the RiverHawks. He worked as a defensive assistant at Briar Cliff University during the spring of 2018.

Sanders was a standout player at Southwest Baptist University from 2012-16, helping the Bearcats to the program’s first Great Lakes Valley Conference title and first NCAA Division II playoff appearance as a senior in 2016.

Sanders earned a bachelor’s of science degree in sports, fitness and recreation management from Southwest Baptist in December 2016.
George and his wife, Aprell, have an infant daughter, Destinee, who was born Feb. 15, 2022.
