Sarah Opheim (Willier) starts her first year of collegiate coaching at Pittsburg State Unviersity as a graduate assistant.
Opheim has a long history of coaching dating back to 2014, where she first started co-coaching her younger sisters’ softball teams with her father, Lucas. At one point she was the first youngest registered Softball coach in all of Canada, and has contributed to the development of small town girls in Ponoka, Alberta. In 2018 she had the opportunity to be a co-coach in the Junior Little League World Series representing Team Canada and Ponoka Little League.
Since 2018 Opheim has had multiple coaching roles mentoring softball lessons and head coaching select teams. She has had the opportunity to be a piece of the development of 3 current and former collegiate athletes.
As a freshman at McCook Community College she posted a .340 batting average and .420 slugging percentage to go with a 1.000 fielding percentage in the outfield and on the mound. In her sophomore season at MCC she batted .348 with a .565 slugging percentage.
A utility player growing up that also saw time as a pitcher, during her senior season of travel ball Opheim posted a 0.87 ERA with the Victoria Devils. Opheim is excited to be a part of Pitt State Softball and be able to coach alongside Joshua Barnes, Abby Shoemaker and Aimee Saporito.
