Jen Gomez

Jen Gomez recently completed her ninth year as head volleyball coach at Pittsburg State University during the 2024 campaign. She has compiled 304 career victories in 19 years as a collegiate head coach, including 102 wins leading the Gorillas program.

Gomez recorded her 300th career coaching victory on Sept. 27, 2024, in Pitt State’s MIAA opening victory over the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. Her 100th win at Pitt State came two weeks later in a 3-1 home decision over the University of Central Missouri on Oct. 11, 2024.

Gomez came to Pittsburg State in December 2015 after serving five seasons as head coach at NCAA Division II member Colorado State University-Pueblo. She also averaged 26.8 wins per year in five seasons as head coach at NAIA member Oklahoma City University from 2006-10 while restarting a program that had been dormant on that campus since 1983.

During her tenure at Pittsburg State, Gomez helped guide the Gorillas to four MIAA Postseason Tournament berths, including an appearance in the semifinals of the 2022 MIAA Postseason Tournament. Pitt State logged 18 victories during the 2018 season – the program’s highest win total since 2009 – as well as 17 wins in 2022.

Her squads made three trips to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Postseason Tournament during her tenure at CSU-Pueblo. At OCU, her 2007 team posted a 34-10 record and her 2008 squad enjoyed a 33-8 campaign.

Prior to her first head coaching position at OCU, Gomez served as an assistant coach at her alma mater, CSU-Pueblo (then University of Southern Colorado), from 2000-03 and at Angelo State University, from 2004-05, growing in the profession under a pair of legendary coaches in Tom Shoji and Kathleen Brasfield.

A native of Dodge City, Kan., Gomez was an NJCAA All-America player at Garden City Community College, as well as an NJCAA Scholar Athlete. She also earned All-RMAC honors and was voted to the RMAC All-Tournament team her senior season at CSU-Pueblo.

Gomez is married to Chanc Gomez. Jen and Chanc have four children: daughter Micah, 13, son, Ryder, 9, and twin sons, Kash and Colt, who turned five on Aug. 17.
