Nick Long enters his third year as head coach of the Pittsburg State University men’s golf program and his second year leading the Gorillas women’s golf team.

Pitt State restarted its men's golf program in 2024-25, after a 10-year pause, and the Gorillas launched a women's golf program for the first time in 2025-26.

Long, who became Pitt State’s first full-time golf coach, led the Pitt State men to a fifth-place finish in the 2025-26 MIAA Standings as well as a berth in the NCAA Division II Midwest/Central Regional. The Gorillas enjoyed a third-place team finish in an MIAA points designated meet as well as a pair of fourth-place team finishes during regular season play. Pitt State earned the No. 6 seed in the 10-team Central Region postseason field.

The Gorillas climbed five positions, from 10^th to fifth, in the MIAA standings between the 2024-25 and 2025-26 campaigns. Long helped direct Mason White to All-MIAA honors during the 2025-26 season.

The Pitt State women enjoyed steady progress during the Gorillas initial season of competition in 2025-26. Pitt State finished 10^th overall in the MIAA Standings. Kylee Hopper garnered All-MIAA honors as the Gorillas’ top performer throughout the season.

Long played golf at Pitt State from 2000-03, serving as a team captain his final two seasons for the Gorillas. He also served as an assistant golf professional at Crestwood Country Club from 2004-07. The Leavenworth, Kan., native earned a bachelor's of business administration (BBA) from Pittsburg State in 2009.

Long resides in Pittsburg with his wife, Ashley, and two daughters. He returned to campus after working in the private sector since his graduation from Pitt State.
