PITTSBURG — The Pitt State baseball team swept 11-5 and 10-1 decisions from NW Missouri State Saturday (Apr. 21) at Al Ortolani Field.

Matt Stalcup tossed six strong innings in the game one victory, allowing just five hits and two earned runs. Stalcup (6-5) took a two-hit shutout into the sixth inning, before the Bearcats finally got on the scoreboard.

By then, the Pitt State offense had plated eight runs of its own in building an 8-0 lead. Luke Bordewick had a three-run double as part of a four-run second inning for the Gorillas. Evan Thomas also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Jacoby Martin went 3-for-4 with two RBIs.

In game two, Pitt State jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead and starter Eric Hansen held the Bearcats at bay. Hansen (2-2) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. He allowed just four hits and one unearned run in eight innings of work.

Chase Barnes, Ryan Reddick and Ryan Bilovesky all drove in two runs. Reddick went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run.

The wins helped Pitt State improve to 16-23 overall and 12-18 in MIAA play. Northwest dropped to 14-26 overall and 13-17 in conference action.

The two teams will complete a four-game series with a 12 Noon doubleheader Sunday (Apr. 22).
