No. 5 Mules Pull Away For 13-3 Victory Over Gorillas in Series Opener

Box Score
PITTSBURG — No. 5 Central Missouri broke open a 1-1 game with a five-run third inning and never looked back in cruising to a 13-3 victory over Pitt State in the series opener Friday (May 4) at Al Ortolani Field.

UCM (38-7, 31-4 MIAA) rapped out 20 hits in the contest. Pitt State (20-25, 16-19 MIAA) countered with 13 hits, while both teams stranded double-digits on the bases in the 2 hour, 49 minute contest.

Albert Selanders went 3-for-3 with two walks and a pair of solo home runs to lead the Mules, while Gabe Thibodeau went 4-for-6.

Chase Barnes belted a solo shot that ricocheted off Selanders' glove in right field and over the wall with two outs in the bottom of the first inning to give the Gorillas an early 1-0 lead. Barnes went 3-for-4 with two RBIs in the game.

Evan Thomas went 4-for-5 to pace Pitt State's offensive attack.

Kurtis Schuyler (8-2) allowed two runs and fanned six batters in six innings of work. Aaron Baker picked up his first save of the season, working three effective innings of relief for the Mules.

The two teams will return to action with a 2 p.m. (CDT) doubleheader Saturday (May 5). Saturday's activities include Alumni Day at Al Ortolani Field. PSU head coach Steve Bever, who will retire following the season, will be honored by the alumni in attendance between games.
