PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will travel to Emporia, Kan., Wednesday (Mar. 20) to face Emporia State University in an MIAA doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. (CDT) at the Trusler Sports Complex.

The Gorillas enter Wednesday's action 11-6 overall, 8-5 in the MIAA, ranked fourth in the conference standings and tied for 10th in the NCBWA Central Region Top 10 poll. Pitt State posted a 3-2 record last week, including taking two of three games in an MIAA series against Southwest Baptist University.

The Hornets are 10-12 overall, 8-9 in the MIAA and ninth in the MIAA standings. ESU has won six of its last eight games, after a 4-10 start to the season. The Hornets took two of three games against Washburn University last weekend at Topeka.

As a team, the Gorillas rank third in the MIAA in runs scored (8.1 pg) and fourth in the conference in batting average (.330). Junior infielders Brad Foss (.403, 12th) and Evan Thomas (.393, 15th) both rank in the top 15 in the MIAA in batting. Foss also ranks 10th in the league in doubles (7), while Thomas ranks 12th in RBIs (21).

Junior outfielder Tory Stoffregen is ninth in the league in runs scored (20), fifth in the conference in doubles (8) and stolen bases (7). Senior first baseman/designated hitter Ryan Bilovesky ranks fifth in the MIAA in home runs (5).

On the mound, Pitt State ranks third in the league with a 4.31 team ERA to date. The Gorillas rank second in the conference in strikeouts (9.2/9 IP) and fourth in opponent batting average (.281).

Senior lefthander Matt Stalcup (2-1, 3.12 ERA) leads the MIAA in strikeouts (14.0/9 IP) and ranks eighth in the conference in ERA. Redshirt freshman righthander Ryan McKay (3-1, 0.66 ERA) leads the conference in appearances (12), while junior lefthander James Fitzgearlds (1-0, 1.98 ERA) leads the league in saves (5).

As a team, the Hornets are scoring 6.0 runs per game and batting .301. ESU has a 5.33 team ERA.
