HAYS, Kan. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team trades games with Fort Hays State University in a doubleheader at Larks Park Thursday (Mar. 21). The Gorillas posted a 5-2 win in game one, before the Tigers countered with a 6-2 decision in the night cap.
Pitt State (12-9, 9-8 MIAA) and Fort Hays State (12-12, 9-11) will complete the series with a single game at 1 p.m. (CDT) Friday (Mar. 22).
In game one, the Gorillas capitalized on strong pitching performances from George Brandecker (1-1) and Ryan McKay (Sv, 1). Brandecker limited FHSU to a pair of runs in 4 1/3 innings of work. McKay then recorded the final eight outs to log his first save of the season.
Pitt State recorded single runs in the first, second, fifth, sixth and seventh frames. Evan Thomas went 1-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs, while Ryan Bilovesky belted his team-leading sixth home run of the season in the contest.
In the nightcap, the Tigers broke open a 3-1 game with a three-run seventh inning. FHSU limited Pitt State to five base hits in the contest. Brad Foss collected two of the team's five hits.
