Gorillas Set to Face Bronchos at Edmond Tuesday

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will travel to Edmond, Okla., Tuesday (Mar. 26) to face the University of Central Oklahoma in an MIAA doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. (CDT) at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Gorillas enter the action 12-10 overall and 9-9 in MIAA play. Pitt State has dropped four of its last five games – all on the road – slipping to ninth place in the conference standings and peaking as high as fourth a week ago.

The Bronchos are 16-8 overall, 13-8 in the MIAA and third in the conference standings. UCO dropped two of three games to 20th-ranked Missouri Western Mar. 22-23 at St. Joseph, Mo.

Tuesday's action will be the first meeting between the two teams since the 1996 season. The Bronchos hold a 10-2 advantage in the series.

As a team, Pitt State is batting .319 and scoring 7.3 runs per game. Brad Foss leads the Gorillas with a .395 batting average. Evan Thomas is batting .359 with three home runs and a team-leading 25 RBI. Tory Stoffregen also is batting .359 and leads the team in runs (24), doubles (11) and stolen bases (9).

The PSU pitching staff has a 5.11 ERA.

UCO is batting .304 as a team and scoring 6.7 runs per game. The Bronchos have a 4.54 team ERA.
