EDMOND, Okla. — Pittsburg State senior lefthander Matt Stalcup struck out the first nine Central Oklahoma batters he faced and fanned a school record 15 Bronchos as the Gorillas posted a 15-1 run-rule victory in the nightcap of an MIAA doubleheader Tuesday (Mar. 26). Pitt State rallied from a 6-2 deficit in game one, scoring four runs in the top of the seventh inning in an 11-7 win.

Stalcup (3-2), a Wellington, Kan., native, dominated UCO batters from the onset. He broke the old school record of 13 strikeouts set by Travis Shaffer on Apr. 5, 1992, vs. Lincoln.

Stalcup took a perfect game into the fifth inning, before Jared Wright singled through the middle of the Pitt State infield. Stalcup then caught Wright off base and threw behind him to end the running threat. He faced the minimum 18 batters through six innings, before Tyler Crabtree's solo home run to open the seventh foiled his no-hit bid.

By then, the Gorillas (14-10, 11-9 MIAA) had pounded out 15 runs on 14 hits to put the game out of reach and shorten the game by run-rule.

Tory Stoffregen and Ryan Bilovesky each homered for Pitt State. Stoffregen went 2-for-4 with four RBI and stole three bases, while Bilovesky drove in three runs with his team-leading eighth homer.

Evan Thomas doubled twice and scored three runs and Brad Foss paced the Gorillas' 14-hit attack, going 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.

UCO (16-10, 13-10 MIAA) pitchers issued eight walks, four wild pitches, a balk and a hit batter. The Bronchos also committed three errors in the field, allowing three unearned runs to plate in the contest.

In game one, the Gorillas dug themselves a 6-2 deficit in the third inning, but four Pitt State relievers combined to limit the Bronchos to one hit over the final 4 1/3 innings. The Gorillas bats also came alive as they scored two runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth frame to take a 7-6 lead. After UCO knotted the score at 7-7 with a run in the bottom of the 5th, Pitt State pushed across four more runs in the top of the seventh to complete the come-back win.

Stoffregen went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI. Thomas and Austin Lastimado also drove in a pair of runs apiece.

George Brandecker (2-1) worked a scoreless sixth inning with two strikeouts to pick up the win.

The Gorillas, who wrapped up a seven-game road swing, return home to Al Ortolani Field to open a three-game MIAA series with Truman Friday and Saturday (Mar. 29-30).
