Gorillas, Bulldogs Push Up Weekend Baseball Series Slightly

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will return home to take on Truman State University in a three-game MIAA weekend series. The Gorillas and Bulldogs will play a doubleheader on Friday with first pitch set for 3 p.m. (CDT) at Al Ortolani Field. The two teams will resume action on Saturday (Mar. 30) with a single game beginning at 1 p.m. The series originally had a single game Friday with a doubleheader slated for Saturday.

The Gorillas enter the action 14-10 overall, 11-9 in MIAA play and ranked fifth in the MIAA standings. Pitt State swept Central Oklahoma in a road twinbill Tuesday (Mar. 26), defeating the Bronchos 11-7 and 15-1.

The Bulldogs are 6-18 overall, 6-17 in the MIAA and 14th in the conference standings. TSU has dropped six of itslast seven games, including a three-game series sweep at the hands of Northwest Missour State University.

Friday's action will be the 59th and 60th meetings between the schools. The Gorillas hold a 47-11 advantage in the series, including a 28-5 mark in games played in Pittsburg.

As a team, Pitt State is batting .328 and scoring 7.8 runs per game. Brad Foss leads the Gorillas with a .411 batting average. Tory Stoffregen is batting .388 and leads the team in runs (27), doubles (12) and stolen bases (12). Evan Thomas is batting .369 with three home runs and a team-leading 28 RBI.

The PSU pitching staff has a 5.11 ERA.

TSU is batting .285 as a team and scoring 5.6 runs per game. The Bulldogs have an 8.85 team ERA.
