PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team got solid starting pitching outings from George Brandecker and Cody Wren and the Gorillas delivered timely hits in a doubleheader sweep of Truman Friday (Mar. 29) at Al Ortolani Field.

Pitt State (16-10, 13-9 MIAA) scored four runs in the fourth inning in the opener to claim a 4-1 victory over Truman (6-20, 6-19 MIAA) and the Gorillas followed a similar script in the nightcap, breaking open a 2-1 game with five runs in the fourth en route to a 7-1 win.

The two teams will wrap up the three-game series with a 1 p.m. (CDT) game Saturday (Mar. 30).

Tory Stoffregen belted his third home run of the season and drove in four runs in the nightcap to pace Pitt State's 11-hit attack.

Wren (2-2) scattered nine runs in eight innings of work, posting eight strikeouts. Dustin Ulrich, returning from an elbow injury that cut short his 2012 season, made his season debut by pitching the ninth.

Brandecker (3-1) allowed six hits in 6 1/3 innings of work in the opener, before leaving the game with one on and one out in the seventh. Ryan McKay got the final two outs for his second save of the year.

Ryan Bilovesky and Brad Foss both went 2-for-3 in the game for the Gorillas.
