PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State baseball team will travel to Joplin, Mo., Wednesday (Mar. 6) to face MIAA rival Missouri Southern in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. (CST) at Joe Becker Stadium.

The Gorillas enter the mid-week action 5-2 overall and 3-2 in MIAA play, while the Lions are 6-4 overall and 2-4 in the MIAA.

Pitt State took two of three games against Nebraska-Kearney Sunday and Moday. The Gorillas posted 13-10 and 17-6 wins before dropping a 14-7 decision in the rubber game of the series.

Southern split a pair of games against Central Oklahom on Feb. 28 before dropping a game to Fort Hays State last Saturday (Mar. 2).

The Gorillas will send senior lefthander Matt Stalcup (2-0, 2.00 ERA) and sophomore righthander Jake Stevenson (0-0, 1.50 ERA) to the hill against Southern. Junior shortstop Evan Thomas leads Pitt State with a .500 batting average (12-for-24) with 13 runs scored and 11 RBIs. Senior first baseman Ryan Bilovesky has belted a team-leading five home runs and recorded a team-best 14 RBIs.
