PITTSBURG — Tory Stoffregen belted a two-run home run among four hits on the afternoon to help lead Pittsburg State to a 12-3 victory over Washburn Saturday (Mar. 9) in the final game of an MIAA weekend series at Al Ortolani Field.
Stoffregen went 4-for-5 with three singles and a two-rum homer to start a six-run fourth inning that turned a 5-1 game into an 11-1 rout. The Gorillas (8-4, 6-4 MIAA) capitalized on timely hits and five WU (3-7, 3-7 MIAA) errors in the contest.
Cody Wren (1-1) allowed two runs and five hits in five innings of work. Three relievers – Matt Reily, Brett Cares and Gonzolo Gonzalez – combined to limit the Ichabods to one additional run over the final four frames.
Evan Thomas and Brad Foss had two hits apiece for the Gorillas and Jacoby Martin had a two-run single.
Pitt State will return to action Tuesday (Mar. 12) when the Gorillas host Drury University in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. (CDT).
