JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — Lincoln University broke a 9-9 tie with two runs in the sixth inning and added another insurance run in the seventh to pull out a 12-10 victory over Pittsburg State University Sunday (Apr. 14) and avoid a three-game series sweep at the hands of the Gorillas.
LU (5-26, 4-22) built a 9-4 lead against Pitt State (22-15, 18-13 MIAA) only to see the Gorillas knot the score at 9-9 following a three-run sixth inning.
Down 12-10 going to the ninth inning, Brad Foss doubled and scored on Luke Bordewick's two-out single to get the Gorillas within a run of the Blue Tigers. Austin Lastimado flew out to center field to end the game though.
Bordewick paced the Gorillas' 15-hit attack, going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBI. Evan Thomas and Ryan Ventura also hit home runs for Pitt State.
The Gorillas will return to action Wednesday (Apr. 17) when they play host to Emporia State University with a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. (CDT) at Al Ortolani Field.
