Pitt State to Make Final Regular Season Road Trip

PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will make its final regular season road trip when the Gorillas travel to St. Charles, Mo., to face Lindenwood University in a three-game MIAA weekend series.

Pitt State and LWU are scheduled to play at 1 p.m. (CDT) doubleheader Saturday (Apr. 20) followed by a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday (Apr. 21).

The Gorillas are 23-16 overall and 19-14 in MIAA play. Pitt State sits in fifth place in the MIAA standings after splitting a pair of games against Emporia State University Tuesday (Apr. 16). The Gorillas blanked the Hornets, 5-0, before dropping a 9-2 decision to ESU in the nightcap.

The Lions are looking to halt a four-game losing streak. LWU is 16-22 overall and 14-16 in conference action. The Lions dropped three competitive games to No. 11 Missouri Western State University last weekend, falling by scores of 6-4, 5-3 and 5-4.

Pitt State is batting .328 and scoring 7.1 runs per game. The Gorillas have a 5.04 team ERA. Junior outfielder Tory Stoffregen leads the team with a .401 batting average, 16 doubles and 40 RBI. Senior first baseman Ryan Bilovesky is hitting .336 with a team-leading 10 home runs.

The Gorillas are expected to send senior lefthander Matt Stalcup (5-2, 2.93 ERA), senior righthander Cody Wren (3-4, 5.75 ERA) and sophomore righthander Jake Stevenson (2-3, 7.71 ERA) to the hill against the Lions.

The Lions are batting .307 and scoring 6.5 runs per game. LWU has a 5.70 team ERA.
