KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Brett Abell tossed a complete-game shutout to lead third-seeded Missouri Southern to a 9-0 victory over seventh-seeded Pittsburg State in first round action of the 2013 MIAA Baseball Championships Thursday (May 9).

The Lions (32-19) scored three runs in the third inning to grab an early 3-0 lead on the Gorillas (28-23) and Southern broke open the game with a six-run seventh inning.

Pitt State will now face fourth-seeded Central Oklahoma in an elimination game at Community America Ballpark at 6:15 p.m. (CDT). The Bronchos dropped a 9-3 decision to top-seeded Missouri Western in the early game Thursday.
