EDMOND, Okla. – Junior quarterback Tony Abenoja tossed three touchdown passes and rushed for a fourth score and sophomore running back Jeff Seybold, Jr., found the end zone three times to spark No. 16 Pittsburg State to a 65-24 victory over Central Oklahoma Saturday (Sept. 14).
 
The Gorillas (2-0, 2-0 MIAA) built leads of 20-0 and 34-3 in the first half against the Bronchos (0-2, 0-2 MIAA) and never looked back in their road debut at UCO’s Wantland Stadium.
 
Pitt State piled up 595 yards of total offense in the contest. Abenoja completed 19 of 24 passes for 211 yards in three quarters of action. His 15-yard run gave the Gorillas the first points of the game with 11:24 remaining in the first quarter. Abenoja added a 17-yard scoring pass to senior tight end Conner Combes early in the second quarter and he finished the first half with a 14-yard touchdown toss to senior wide receiver John Brown with 42 ticks remaining in the second quarter.
 
Seybold added scoring runs of 1 and 2 yards as part of Pitt State’s first-half scoring outburst. He also broke loose for an 11-yard touchdown reception on the opening drive of the third quarter to stretch the Gorillas’ lead to 41-3. Seybold finished the game with 15 carries for 59 yards rushing, while adding four catches for 27 yards.
 
Sophomore running back Brian Poston added a 10-yard third-quarter scoring run. Junior place kicker Connor Frazell also booted a 39-yard field goal in the third period.
 
Sophomore quarterback Darrack Harger tossed a 23-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Levi Kuntzsch with 12:41 to play in the fourth quarter and redshirt freshman quarterback Ramsey Hamilton capped the scoring with a 33-yard run with 7:45 to play in the game.
 
Senior linebacker Nate Dreiling made a team-leading 10 tackles in the contest to reach 400 career stops and climb into second place on Pitt State’s all-time tackle chart.
 
Junior linebacker Tyler Disney added an interception and a fumble recovery for a Pitt State defense that held UCO in check before the Bronchos scored 14 fourth-quarter points when the game was out of reach.
 
Pitt State will return home to the friendly confines of Brandenburg Field/Carnie Smith Stadium to host MIAA rival Southwest Baptist next Saturday (Sept. 21) at 7 p.m. (CDT).
