PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Gorilla Volleyball team played an extremely tight match with No. 6 Washburn on Friday (Oct. 10) night in John Lance Arena, losing in three by scores of 25-23, 25-23 and 25-21.
The Gorillas had a lead in every set and came back to tie late in every set. Washburn just made the plays at the right time to earn the win.
The Ichabods had nine more kills than the Gorillas and two fewer errors. The Gorillas were also outblocked 7.0 to 5.5. Pitt State led in digs and also had three fewer service errors.
Paula Okrutna led the Gorilla offense with 11 kills. Madi Mosier added eight kills and 11 digs. She also led the team in blocks with three (one solo, two assisted). Ashlen Schwartz led the team with 22 digs. Ary Crittleton, Haylee Gregory and Ashley Bell each had two blocks.
Pitt State will play the second match of a five-match homestand on Saturday (Oct. 11) against Emporia State at 6 p.m. It is Alumni Day and PSU Volleyball alumni at the game will be recognized between sets two and three.
