PITTSBURG, Kan. -- The Pitt State Gorilla volleyball team played a solid match to win its fourth conference match with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-22) victory over Lindenwood on Friday (Oct. 17) evening in John Lance Arena.

Pitt State now improves to 7-13 overall and 4-8 in MIAA play, while LIndenwood falls to 5-15 overall and 2-10 in league play.

Madi Mosier led the home team attack with 12 kills, while Ary Crittleton added 11. Both players hit over .300 for the match, with Crittleton committing just one hitting error. Paula Okrutna was just below double figures with nine kills and only two errors. She hit .389 for the match.

Defensively, Aimee Wood, Ashlen Schwartz and Hayley Hansford each recorded nine digs. Ashley Bell led the team with five blocks to complete the team effort on the court.

The Gorillas led almost the entire way through the first two sets with only one lead change and a couple ties early in each set. The third set was a different story.

The teams were tied early at 3-3 and 4-4, before Lindenwood started to pull ahead, eventually taking a 7-4 lead. Though Pitt State was able to chip away at the lead, coming within one at 8-7, the Lions pulled back ahead, picking up at fouru-pointlead at 15-11. The Gorillas were not going to let down and again fought back, this time tying the game at 18-, 19-, 20- and 21 before finally taking their first lead of the set at 22-21 on a Lindenwood bad set. Lindenwood tied the set again, but a Bell kill gave Pitt State the lead for good and two Lion attack errors finished the set and the match.

Pitt State will take on No. 21 Central Missouri at 3 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 18). The team will host a free clinic for all area Girl Scouts from 1-2 p.m., prior to the match.
