ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Pitt State women's basketball team put together a great team win, as they cruised to a 75-56 win over Bemidji State on Saturday (November 15) evening at the Gangelhoff Center on the Concordia-St. Paul campus in the Radisson Hotel Roseville Classic.
The Gorilla's Kylie Gafford and Lizzy Jeronimus were named to the Radisson Hotel Roseville Classic All-Tournament team. Jeronimus averaged 13.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Gafford added 12.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.Â
Against Bemidji State, Cathy Brugman led the Gorillas with 16 points and five assists. Jeronimus chipped in 15 points and nine rebounds. Gafford added 13 points and nine rebounds with three blocked shots. Brigit Hesser was just under double figures with nine points.Â
Pitt State led the entire game. The team earned its first double-digit lead of the game on a three by Hesser to give the team an 18-6 led with 10:22 to go in the first half. An 8-0 run by the Beavers in the middle of the half cut the Gorilla lead down to six, 24-18, with 5:22 in the half. Bemidji would stay within six to 10 points for the rest of the half, leaving Pitt State with a 33-25 lead at the half.
Brugman scored to give the Gorillas a 10-point lead to start the half and the game was never closer after that. The Gorillas got their first 20 point lead of the game on free throws by Brugman with 10:16 remaining. Freshman Elena Flott scored the final points of the game with 59 seconds remaining for the 75-56 win.
The team will complete their Minnesota road trip tomorrow (November 16) with a game against Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn. at 2 p.m.
