PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will travel to Hays, Kan., to open MIAA play in a four-game weekend series against Fort Hays State University.

The Gorillas and Tigers will open the series with a single game at 3 p.m. (CST) Friday (Feb. 21) at Larks Park. The two teams then will play a doubleheader Saturday (Feb. 22) at 1 p.m. and wrap up the series with a single game Sunday (Feb. 23) at 1 p.m.

Pitt State and FHSU both bring 1-2 records into the series. The Gorillas dropped 9-4 and 8-1 decisions to Oklahoma Christian University before claiming a 12-2 win in the series finale at Oklahoma City on Feb. 15. The Tigers dropped a pair of one-run decisions, 4-3 and 6-5, to Texas A&M International University before rebounding for a 10-8 victory in the series finale at Laredo, Texas, on Feb. 16.

Senior shortstop Evan Thomas collected a team-leading four hits in the season opening series, going 4-for-10 with a double and three runs scored. Senior outfielder Cody Ball went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs in two games played, while senior utility player Kyle Dickens doubled, homered and drove in four runs as well.

Junior righthander Nate Arnold (1-0, 0.00 ERA) allowed two hits and no earned runs in six innings of work in Pitt State's 12-2 victory. He fanned seven batters in the contest.

As a team, the Gorillas are batting .259 and scoring 5.7 runs per game. Pitt State has a 3.86 team earned run average. The Gorillas sport just an .871 fielding percentage thanks to 12 errors.

FHSU is batting .347 and scoring 6.0 runs per game. The Tigers have a 5.70 ERA and a .917 fielding percentage with nine team defensive errors.
