WICHITA, Kan. — Newman University jumped out to an early 13-0 lead and then held on in the late innings for a 13-8 victory over the Pittsburg State University baseball team Tuesday (Mar. 11) at McCarthy Field.
The Gorillas (5-11), who dropped their fifth straight decision, fell behind 3-0 after an inning and then spotted the Jets six more runs in the second and four runs in the fourth.
Pitt State, which compiled 15 hits in the contest, got on the board with a four-run fifth inning. The Gorillas got another run in the seventh and three more in the ninth. Brad Foss and Nate Arnold each went 4-for-5 in the contest. Foss scored twice and drove in a run, while Arnold scored a run and drove in two more. Andrew Krieling also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Gorillas will return to Al Ortolani Field to open a three-day, four-game MIAA series against Northeastern State University Friday. Pitt State and the RiverHawks will play a single game at 5 p.m. (CDT) Friday, a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday and a final game Sunday at 1 p.m.
