PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team will open a four-game MIAA series against Washburn University Friday (Mar. 21).

First pitch is set for 5 p.m. (CDT) at Al Ortolani Field.

The Gorillas (9-12, 7-9 MIAA) enter the series on a modest three-game winning streak. Pitt State, which is wrapping up a 10-game homestand, defeated Drury, 13-8, in a non-conference game Wednesday (Mar. 19) after taking three of four games in an MIAA series against Northeastern State University last weekend.

The Ichabods enter Friday's game at 9-9 overall and 9-7 in MIAA play. WU dropped a 15-5 decision to Newman Tuesday (Mar. 18) at Wichita, Kan.

The Gorillas are batting .294 and scoring 5.1 runs per game. Pitt State has a 6.91 team ERA. Senior outfielder Cody Ball leads the team offensively with a .426 batting average. He has 20 runs scored, four home runs and 18 RBIs, all team highs. Senior righthander Tyler Thompson (2-3, 5.34 ERA) earned MIAA Pitcher of the Week honors Tuesday (Mar. 18) after tossing a three-hit shutout against NSU last Friday.

The Ichabods are batting .270 as a team and scoring 5.3 runs per game. WU has a 5.15 team ERA.

Following Friday's game the two teams will meet in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday (Mar. 22) before wrapping up the series with a final game at 1 p.m. Sunday (Mar. 23).
