PITTSBURG – Cort Lesmeister fired a two-hitter and Andrew Kreiling delivered a two-run triple to spark the Pittsburg State University baseball team to a 3-0 victory over Washburn University Saturday (Mar. 22).
 
The win helped the Gorillas (11-13, 9-10 MIAA) salvage a doubleheader split against the Ichabods (10-11, 10-9 MIAA). WU scored a 4-1 win over Pitt State in game one Saturday.
 
Kreiling contributed the big hit of the game with two outs in the second inning. He knocked in Evan Thomas, who was hit by pitch to open the frame, and Kyle Dickens, who drew a one-out walk from WU starter Taylor Gentry (2-1).

Jacoby Martin added an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to give Lesmeister and the Gorillas a late-inning insurance run.

Lesmeister (3-1) walked one and registered five strikeouts. Parker Gibsons the only Ichabod to record a hit against him with singles in the first and sixth innings. At one point, Lesmeister retired 10 straight batters between the first and fourth innings.
 
In the opener, WU capitalized on three Pitt State errors in the fourth inning to plate three runs and break a 1-1 tie. The Ichabods added four hits in the pivotal frame.
 
Nate Arnold (3-2) took the loss, allowing eight hits and four runs (two earned) in six innings of work.
 
Brett Ash (1-1) allowed just two hits and an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning in posting the complete-game victory. He walked five and struck out nine Pitt State batters.
 
Cody Ball drove in the Gorillas' lone run with an RBI grounder that scored Derek Hackney who walked to start the frame.
