Gorillas Wrap Up Home Stand Against Jets Tuesday

PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg State University baseball team will wrap up its 10-game home stand with a single game against Newman University Tuesday (Mar. 25). First pitch is set for 3 p.m. (CDT) at Al Ortolani Field.

The Gorillas (12-13, 10-10 MIAA) enter the game after winning seven of their last nine contests. Pitt State took three of four games against MIAA rival Washburn University over the weekend, including a 5-4 13-inning decision in the series finale Sunday.

The Jets enter Tuesday's game at 12-11 overall.  NU was swept by St. Edward's University in a three-game weekend series. Newman defeated the Gorillas, 13-8, at Wichita on March 11.

The Gorillas are batting .291 and scoring 5.0 runs per game. Pitt State has a 5.99 team ERA. Senior outfielder Cody Ball leads the team offensively with a .390 batting average. He has 21 runs scored, four home runs and 24 RBIs, all team highs. Junior righthander George Brandecker (0-4, 5.34 ERA) will get the start Tuesday after throwing two scoreless innings of relief Sunday.

The Jets are batting .305 as a team and scoring 6.7 runs per game. Newman has a 4.96 team ERA. NU has three players currently batting over .300, led by freshman outfielder Tyer Bugner. The Andale, Kan., native is batting .420 with 22 runs scored and 13 RBIs.

Pittsburg State will head to St. Charles, Mo., to take on Lindenwood University in a four-game series beginning at 4 p.m. Friday (Mar. 28).
