PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University baseball team broke open a one-run game with a pair of five-run innings as the Gorillas posted a 17-3 victory over Newman University Tuesday (Mar. 25).

The Gorillas (13-13) pounded out 18 hits in the non-conference contest, the last game of a 10-game homestand at Al Ortolani Field.

Luke Bordewick led the Pitt State offense going 3-for-6 with a pair of doubles, including a bases clearing shot in a three-run eighth inning for the Gorillas.

Brad Foss also went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and Evan Thomas went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Ian Robinson went 2-for-4 with a three-run double in the seventh inning.

Cameron Fisher (1-0) worked three innings of one-hit relief to pick up the win. Dustin Ulrich added two scoreless innings of relief end the game.

The Jets (12-12) compiled 13 hits in the contest but scored only single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Pitt State will return to action Friday (Mar. 28) when the Gorillas open a four-game MIAA series at St. Charles, Mo., against Lindenwood University.
