ST. CHARLES, Mo. -- Lindenwood University scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to rally from a 6-3 deficit and claim a 7-6 victory over Pittsburg State University Friday (Mar. 28) in the opening contest of a four-game MIAA series at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.

The Lions (11-17, 8-9 MIAA) touched Pitt State reliever Ryan McKay (1-2) for three hits, a walk and a hit batter in the ninth to foil a solid outing by the Gorillas (13-14, 10-11 MIAA) Tyler Thompson, who scattered seven hits and allowed two earned runs with nine strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work.

Jerry Roam had a two-run double in the ninth to draw the Lions within a run, at 6-5, and Marshall Vallandingham and Ryan Light followed with two-out singles to drive in the final two runs.

Cody Ball went 3-for-5 to pace Pitt State nine-hit attack. Andrew Kreiling belted a solo home run and Jacoby Martin drove in a pair of runs.

The Gorillas and Lions will resume the series Saturday (Mar. 29) with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. (CDT).
