WARRENSBURG, Mo. — The University of Central Missouri swept the opening two games of a four-game MIAA series from Pittsburg State University Friday (Mar. 7) at Tompkins Field/Crane Stadium. The Mules posted 6-1 and 16-6 victories over the Gorillas.
Pitt State (5-8, 4-6 MIAA) and UCM (10-7, 7-3) will wrap up the series with a 2 p.m. (CDT) doubleheader Sunday (Mar. 9).
In game one, the Mules scored two runs apiece in the second, third and fourth innings to take J Heissler to an early lead. Heissler (4-1) scattered seven hits in seven innings of work, allowing just one unearned run in the contest.
In the nightcap, UCM capitalized on 11 walks issued by Pitt State pitchers. The Mules broke open a 3-2 game with a seven-run four inning, before tacking on three more runs in both the fifth and sixth frames.
Cody Ball delivered a two-run double for the Gorillas in their half of the third inning to trim a 3-0 deficit to a 3-2 margin. Pitt State added four more runs in the sixth. Spencer Booe and Tory Stoffregen each had RBI singles, while Jacoby Martin was hit by pitch with the bases loaded and Brad Foss drew a bases loaded run to force in the remaining two runs in the frame.
