Griffons Take a Pair From Gorillas Friday

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Missouri Western State University swept a pair of games from Pittsburg State University Friday (Apr. 11). The Griffons took 6-4 and 4-1 decisions over the Gorillas.

The two teams will wrap up a four-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday (Apr. 12) at the MWSU Baseball Field.

Pitt State (15-24, 10-20 MIAA) jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead in the opener against Western (21-14, 17-11 MIAA).

The Gorillas stretched their margin to 4-1 on Cody Ball's third inning grounder, but the Griffons countered with three runs in their half of the frame and Western pushed in front with two runs in the fourth inning against Pitt State starter Tyler Thompson (4-5).

In the nightcap, Josh Lansangan (2-1) tossed seven shutout innings, limiting the Gorillas to four hits. The Griffons plated three runs in the third inning off starter James Fitzgearalds (0-1) to grab the lead against Pitt State.

The two teams traded runs in the eighth inning to complete the scoring. Aaron Boucher walked and scored on Brad Foss' RBI grounder for the Gorillas. Foss had an RBI single in the frame and Jacoby Martin added a two-run single for Pitt State.
