Season StatsST. JOSEPH, Mo. -- Missouri Western State University completed a four-game series sweep of Pittsburg State University with 1-0 and 8-3 victories Saturday (Apr. 12). 23-14 19-11
The Griffons Jake Jones and Mason Queen outdueled the Gorillas' Cort Lesmeister in game one. Jones (5-2) and Queen (Sv. 3) combined to limit Pitt State (15-26, 10-22 MIAA) to two hits in the contest.
Western (23-14, 19-11 MIAA) plated its lone run in the fourth inning. David Chew tripled to open the frame and scored on Jeremy Monty's sacrifice fly.
Lesmeister (3-3) allowed just six hits and the lone run in six innings of work. He walked one and struck out four Griffon batters.
In the nightcap, Western scored twice in the second and added three runs in the third to grab an early lead against the Gorillas en route to an 8-3 win.
Five Pitt State errors proved costly in the contest.
Andrew Kreiling went 1-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Gorillas offense.
