PITTSBURG — The Pittsburg State University baseball team will close out its regular season schedule by traveling to Northwest Missouri State University for a four-game weekend MIAA series. The Gorillas and Bearcats will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. (CDT) Friday (Apr. 25) and wrap up the series with a twinbill Saturday (Apr. 26) at 1 p.m.

The Gorillas enter the weekend action with a 16-30 overall record and an 11-24 mark in MIAA play. Pitt State dropped three of four games against the University of Nebraska-Kearney last weekend (Apr. 17-19).

The Bearcats enter this weekend's match-up with a 21-21 overall record and a 15-18 MIAA mark. In its most recent action, NWMSU was swept in four games by Emporia State University, getting outscored during the series 42-13.

The Gorillas enter Friday's action hitting .276 as a team and scoring 4.7 runs per game. Pitt State has a 5.40 team ERA. Junior utility player Nate Arnold leads the team with a .356 batting average. Senior third baseman Brad Foss leads the team with 14 doubles and ranks second with a .347 batting average and 25 RBIs.

The Gorillas are expected to send senior righthander Tyler Thompson (4-5, 4.61 ERA), freshman righthander Cort Lesmeister (3-4, 4.44), freshman righthander Matt Standlee (0-4, 5.67) and senior southpaw James Fitzgearlds (0-2, 4.35) to the mound.

The Bearcats are hitting .286 as a team and scoring 6.1 runs per game. Northwest has a 5.38 team ERA.
