Season StatsMARYVILLE, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University baseball team ended its 2014 season with a pair of losses to MIAA rival Northwest Missouri State University Saturday (Apr. 26). The Bearcats defeated the Gorillas 11-2 and 8-2 at Bearcat Field.
The losses ended Pitt State season with an 18-32 overall record and a13-27 MIAA mark. Northwest ended its year 23-23 overall and 17-20 in the MIAA.
The Gorillas and Bearcats were tied 2-2 in game one, before Northwest plated three runs in the fifth inning and six more in the sixth frame to put the game out of reach. Cort Lesmeister (3-5) allowed four runs in 4 1/3 innings of work with one walk and four strikeouts. Cody Ball went 3-for-4 with an RBI to lead the Pitt State offense.
Dustin Ulrich (1-1) pitched into the seventh inning for the Gorillas in the nightcap. He trailed 2-1 through six innings before Northwest broke loose for four runs in the pivotal seventh.
Brad Foss and Kyle Dickens each went 1-for-4 with an RBI in the contest.
