PITTSBURG – The Pittsburg State University baseball team overcame an early 3-0 deficit to take an 11-4 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday (Apr. 9). The Gorillas rallied late to take a 7-6 walkoff win over the Tritons in the nightcap.

Pitt State (15-22) snapped a nine-game losing streak with the win in the opener against UMSL (13-13).

The Gorillas plated four runs in the fourth to turn a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 lead then tacked on four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to break the game open.

Kyle Dickens and Luke Bordewick both belted solo home runs as part of the Gorillas' four-run fourth inning. Cody Ball and Dickens added two-runs hits in the fifth.

Dustin Ulrich (1-0) allowed four runs and seven hits in five innings of work to pick up the victory. James Fitzgearlds worked two innings of one-hit relief.

In the nightcap, Pitt State plated two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score and force extra innings. Andrew Kreiling doubled home Aaron Boucher to get the Gorillas within a run and Nate Arnold drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game.

Ryan McKay (2-3) worked around a two-on, one-out situation to escape the top of the eighth unscathed and allow the Gorillas to complete the rally.

Dickens doubled to open the eighth and Bordewick delivered the game-winning double to end the contest.

Arnold went 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the contest, while Brad Foss went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

Pitt State will travel to St. Joseph, Mo., to open a four-game MIAA weekend series against Missouri Western State University.
