SAINT CHARLES, Mo. -- The PIttsburg State volleyball team came up on the short end of an epic five-set battle at Lindenwood on Friday (September 19) evening. Match scores were 28-26, 14-25, 31-33, 25-16, 15-8).
Two of the sets went beyond 25 points. Lindenwood won the first set, 28-26. Pitt State rebounded to take the second set, 25-14. The third set was a back-and-forth race to the finish with 15 ties and four lead changes before the Gorillas won 33-31. Lindenwood settled in in the final two sets to win 25-16 and 15-8.
The Gorillas hit .190 for the match with a match high .529 attack percentage in the second set. The team had a low attack percentage of -.026 in the fourth set, with only 9 kills and 10 errors. Nineteen of the team's 57 kills came in the third set.
The Lions hit .187 for the match with 65 kills. The team had 16 kills in the first set and 18 in the third. They hit at a .588 clip in the fifth set for the win.
Lindenwood talled six service aces to just one for the Gorillas. Pitt State had 16.0 team blocks to just 7.0 for the home team. The Gorillas also won the block battle by four, 59-55.
Madi Mosier led the Gorillas with 19 kills. Ary Crittleton added 13, and Ashley Bell, 11. Haylee Gregory led the team in blocks with six (two solo, four assisted. Crittleton added five (four solo, one assisted), while Hayley Hansford, Mosier and Bell each had four blocks. Aimee Wood led the team with 16 digs, Chandler Templin was just under double figures with nine digs. Hansford tallied 48 assists.
The Gorillas will take on No. 14 Central Missouri at 3 p.m. in Warrensburg on Saturday (September 20).
