Bausby Set to Compete in Medal of Honor Bowl Saturday

PITTSBURG — Pittsburg State University senior cornerback De'Vante Bausby will compete in the 2015 Medal of Honor Bowl Saturday (Jan. 10). The all-star game, which features some of the nation's top draft eligible college football players, will take place at Johnson Hagood Stadium on the campus of The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (CST) and the game will air on NBC Sports Network.

Bausby is one of a handful of small college stars invited to the national all-star game. The team rosters are primarly dotted with players from the NCAA's FBS conferences, including 38 players from either SEC or ACC schools.

Bausby (6-2, 179) earned second-team NCAA Division II All-America honors as a senior for the Gorillas in 2014, helping Pitt State to an 11-2 record, an MIAA co-championship and a berth in the Division II national playoffs. The Kansas City, Mo., native made 47 tackles (29 solo) with 2.5 tackles-for-loss and 1.5 quarterback sacks. He also recorded a team-high nien pass break-ups and four interceptions. He made a career-high 11 tackles with an interception and a PBU in his final collegiate game vs. No. 1 ranked Minnesota State University in the NCAA Division II playoffs.

A two-time All-MIAA selection (2013-14), Bausby started 34 of 49 games at Pitt State. He compiled 127 career tackles (80 solo) with 9.0 tackles-for-loss and 6.5 quarterback sacks. He also registered 30 career pass break-ups and 11 interceptions, finishing his career No. 2 on Pitt State's all-time PBU list.

Bausby will wear No. 22 for the "National" team in the Medal of Honor Bowl. The "National" squad is coached by former NFL head coach Chan Gailey with former University of Kansas head coach (1986-87) and long-time NFL assistant Bob Valesente serving as defensive coordinator.

The "American" team is coached by former South Carolina State University head coach Willie Jeffries.

Bausby is joined on the "Nationals" squad by Henderson State University quarterback Kevin Rodgers, the 2014 runner-up for the Harlon Hill Trophy as the Division II College Player of the Year.
